Paolo A. Bolognese, MD, hails from Torino, Italy, and graduated magna cum laude from the Medical School of the University of Turin in 1986. He completed his initial neurosurgical training there in 1990 under Professor Victor A. Fasano, a renowned expert in high-tech neurosurgery applications.

During his early career, Dr. Bolognese emerged as a leading global expert in laser Doppler flowmetry for neurosurgery and became a prominent figure in European neurosurgical intraoperative ultrasound.

Following the passing of his mentor in 1992, Dr. Bolognese accepted an invitation from Dr. Thomas H. Milhorat to continue his clinical research in the United States. He retrained under Dr. Milhorat at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, where he completed a second neurosurgery residency, a fellowship in the management of Chiari I Malformation and related disorders, and served as chief resident in neurosurgery.

In 2001, Dr. Bolognese joined Dr. Milhorat at North Shore University Hospital as Associate Director of the Chiari Center. Together, they co-founded The Chiari Institute, where Dr. Bolognese served as Associate Director.

In 2014, Dr. Bolognese established the Chiari Neurosurgical Center, which later became the Chiari EDS Center. Dr. Bolognese serves on the Board of Directors of the American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project, Inc. (ASAP), is a member of the Scientific Education and Advisory Board of the Chiari Syringomyelia Foundation (CSF), and participates in the International Consortium on EDS, HSD, and Related Disorders.
